We are working with a leading risk management consultancy to recruit an in-house Chief Legal Officer / General Counsel. This is an exciting opportunity to join a growing business with a global presence and to work closely with the Senior Leadership Team, contributing to the strategic and commercial success of the firm.
As the firm's in-house legal advisor, you will be responsible for protecting the firm, its clients, staff and share holders from damage and disrepute. As such, data protection, information security, legal compliance and contractual risk are a particular focus for this role. You will also act as the firm's Data Protection Officer.
You will have oversight of the risk management framework, including managing corporate risk and legal registers, working with senior managers to identify and mitigate key risks and ensuring integration of risk concepts into strategic planning. You will investigate any incidents and breaches to facilitate continuous improvement.
You will also review commercial contracts advising colleagues on significant drafting changes and/or deviations from standard contract wording as well as managing relationships with external legal advisors, engaging advice as necessary.
About you:
This role requires an experienced lawyer (either from private practice or in-house) who can set the tone on how the business manages risks. Ethics and integrity are at the heart of the firm and you will need to ensure that they comply with the spirit and letter of the law in all client law. Experience of risk management in an international professional services context and Data Protection expertise are particularly desirable for this role.
